The Unified Policy and Charging Controller (UPCC) has QoS and charging control functions and is compliant with 3GPP PCC architecture. It allows flexible policy configuration for fixed-line, mobile, and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) services. It provides policy, service, subscription, quota, and bearer resource management functions, as well as admission control.
The UPCC offers flexible policy models to implement policy control for QoS, redirection, SMS or email notification, congestion control, and charging control.The policy models consist of the following dimensions: data usage, subscriber location, time range, roaming status, spending limit, APN, subscriber category, device type, and access network type.
The UPCC provides various broadband services for carriers and utilizes network resources and services to increase carriers' revenues, minimize total cost of operation (TCO), and improve subscribers' service experience.
