Huawei has unveiled the world's first palm-sized wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) product, the OSN 850. Being compact, large-bandwidth, low-delay, and easy-to-deploy, OSN 850 is able to serve as customer premises equipment (CPE) in various high-speed private line service scenarios.

The development of large-granularity private line services has resulted in carriers requiring a solution which offers large-bandwidth and low-delay transmission.Following the mindset of building networks with "Simplified Network", Huawei launched the new OSN 850 facilitating the provisioning of private line services for carriers. Deployment of the OSN 850 will enable long-term large bandwidths suitable for effectively carrying multiple types of services, including fixed, mobile, and private line.

The OSN 850 is able to centrally process different rate services ranging from 125 Mbit/s to 10GE. The product features plug-and-play functionality and can be used for demarcation, making it easy for carriers to deploy. The OSN 850’s compact size also enables the device to naturally cool. In addition, the OSN 850 is able to work with Huawei's metro WDM products to form the industry's most comprehensive end-to-end solution, making centralized management, fast service provisioning, and simple operations and maintenance possible for carriers. With extensive experience and expertise in the WDM sector and as the preferred partner for carriers building next-generation WDM networks, Huawei to date has helped to build over 500 metro WDM networks across the globe.

The OSN 850 was first showcased at the recent Fiber Optics Expo (FOE), Asia's largest fiber optics communication exhibition held in Tokyo with visitors getting the opportunity to experience Huawei’s world's first palm-sized WDM product.

Typical Application

The OptiX OSN 850 is a small-sized desktop device. It is mainly used for receiving GE and 10GE LAN services from the client side and transmitting the services to OptiX OSN 1800/1832 X16 sites, or receiving services from OptiX OSN 1800/1832 X16 sites. OptiX OSN 850 devices can be managed using the NMS of OptiX OSN 1800/1832 X16 sites.

Figure 1 shows the typical application scenario of the OptiX OSN 850.

Figure 1 Typical application scenario of the OptiX OSN 850

The OptiX OSN 850 can be applied to the following scenarios:

  • Symmetric scenario: OptiX OSN 850 (wavelength add) <-> OptiX OSN 1800/1832 X16 board <-> OptiX OSN 1800/1832 X16 board <-> OptiX OSN 850 (wavelength drop)
  • Asymmetric scenario: OptiX OSN 850 (wavelength add) <-> OptiX OSN 1800/1832 X16 board <-> OptiX OSN 1800/1832 X16 board (wavelength drop)
 NOTE:
In an asymmetric scenario, if the OptiX OSN 850 receives GE services, the OptiX OSN 1800/1832 X16 board interconnected with the OptiX OSN 850 cannot be configured with intra-board 1+1 protection.
